We offer a full range of martial arts classes for kids and teens.
The Combat Sports Academy offers a full line up of martial arts classes for kids and teens, ranging from ages 5 to 13. At Combat Sports Academy we teach your children the very best in the martial arts, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Judo, Wrestling and Mixed Martial arts (MMA) classes that blend all the styles together. Our goal is to bring all levels together for a great aerobic and anaerobic workout that will last a lifetime with your child.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art that teaches ground control utilizing such positions as the guard, the mount, side control and back control. Once in these positions, an opponent can submit him or her with a submission that usually utilizes a joint manipulation such as an arm bar, kimura, or key lock. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class is taught in a gi, which is a traditional uniform, and belt ranks are awarded. The belt order for Kid's BJJ consists of White, Yellow, Orange, Green (with 4 stripes in-between belt colors) and then Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. As your child moves up through the ranks, he or she will build character, self confidence and a sense of achievement.
Our Kid’s Muay Thai Kickboxing teaches proper stance and striking from all angles including correct punching techniques (boxing skills), correct kicking techniques and other striking including knees and elbows. These techniques are continuously practiced with combinations on focus mitts, Thai pads, kick pads and heavy bags. In addition to developing and honing these skills, children and teens will have supervised and controlled sparing that will develop speed, flexibility and athletic coordination.
A parent or guardian will need to be present during the class.
Because Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai are real and effective martial arts and sports, it confers the benefits of both endeavors to students, particularly children. The way Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai are taught and practiced keeps children engaged through live participation instead of isolated movements popular in other martial arts (often called kata).
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches students to use their weight and leverage to control and subdue their opponents, without the use of strikes, even when bigger and stronger opponents are resisting with all of their force, in a safe and controlled atmosphere. Muay Thai teaches your child how to effectively defend him or herself with kicks and strikes.
Further, because students know that they are training against others that are resisting to the best of their ability, success during training is a powerful feedback mechanism that reminds students on a day-to-day basis that the lessons they are learning are real and effective. This creates true self-confidence in a child’s ability to defend him/herself. In addition, children can see empiracal evidence of their progress; i.e., more submissions during training, more effective sparring in Muay Thai.
At a time when children are inundated with messages from media and peers encouraging immediate gratification through T.V., video games and the likes, BJJ and Muay Thai provide discipline, strong work ethic, and outstanding fitness that will guide children during their entire lives.
